But as a way to keep some aspects of his original concept art and digital self in play, there will be occasional oddities with his appearance. For instance, while characters can see his eyes through at least one of his masks, and will occasionally see his mouth, if his mask is ever taken off he'll have no face underneath, since he was never programmed with a face and his creator has no intention of giving him one. He also may occasionally glitch when he's hurt, or his mask may do odd things, like suddenly grow a hint of teeth, or act more like a face. And people will be able to Opt In or Out of whether or not they can see a more human face (x,x) or if they can see the glitching.

{ Permissions: }

;oc

Backtagging: Yes.
Muse List: x
Threadjacking: For lighter threads this is fine, for any serious ones please ask first.
Fourth walling: Go right ahead! He'll do it if you don't!
Subjects to avoid: Can't think of anything.

;ic

Physical contact: He'll probably be okay with most things but will try to stop anyone who tries to take his mask off.

Kissing: He'll probably find it amusing that your characters wants to.

Flirting: Flirt away! Again, he'll probably find it amusing and flirt back. Though it might be hard to tell if he's serious or teasing.

Easiest way to get on his bad side: It can be hard to tell if you're on his bad side, as nothing really seems to get it him, and he displays a passive and humorous nature with everyone, no matter how they treat him or how he really feels about them. That's not to say he doesn't have a bad side, but good luck telling when you've finally crossed that line or what precisely managed to get to him, unless he outright states it.

Easiest way to get on his good side: You're already there, friend. -insert chuckle here- Though, okay, really it's just as hard to tell if you're honestly on his good side as it is to tell if your on his bad side (or actually it might be harder, since if you're on his bad side you're at least more likely to hear "playful" jabs at your nature, and back handed compliments).

Fighting: Yes, please.

Injuring / Killing this character: I'm good with this. For death or serious injury, ask first so we can plot it out. If this is for a perma-death game, I would like to save death for a point when it could be useful/necessary either in game or OOC.

Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Sure! If you would like details on what his mind would be like, just contact me.

comments

On one hand, he's generally humorous, good-natured, helpful and pacifistic, usually greeting the player with a soft chuckle and a bit of playful quick wit. And while we don't see him really interact directly with other characters, throughout the game he is spoken of quite a bit, and shown to be well regarded by quite a few of them.

The Judge, a talking cat that serves as the first guide in the game, refers to him as an old friend and it's hinted that, along with Sucre and the Judge's brother Valērie, they seem to be the only residents of Zone 0. Zacharie is also the only character shown to call him by his name (Pablo) as opposed to his title. It's also hinted that Zach is the one who's been leaving food for him and otherwise taking care of him. And when Valērie is killed and Pablo falls in to despair Zacharie takes over as The Batter's guide specifically to allow him to morn in peace.

And while we never learn his exact connection to Sucre, they were seemingly living in the same Zone (which consisted of a single house/building), and after she's killed by the Batter, Zacharie is apparently important enough to her that he was the last person she thought of before passing on; requesting that the Batter say goodbye to him for her. And sure enough the next time the Batter speaks with Zach, it's the first and only time in the game where he doesn't chuckle or jokingly meow at you, instead only solemnly responding with "I guess it's better like that" (possibly either because her addiction to sugar, their worlds version of a drug, and had made her violently unstable, or because by that point it was clear that what the Batter was doing was killing their world anyway).

Even the Elsen, a neurotic and paranoid lot seem, seem fond of him and even seem to trust him. Or at least the few that know him do.

But his oddest and more perplexing connection by far seem to be with little Hugo

Which all seems well and good, but the other side of the coin is that, we never really know what his actual motivations are or how genuine he's being throughout the game. This mixed with the fact that he often seems to know more then he's letting on, can make it hard to fully trust him or his intentions.

In his first interaction with the Batter, he makes it clear he's not interested in talking about himself, and he holds true to that. While you can certainly pick up on the kind of general personality he has though his dialogue and actions, to learn anything about his connections to others or his history, you have to learn about him through clues in the environment or by how others talk about him. But it seems that how people speak of him doesn't always align with his actions, and he can offend times come off as more than a little shady because of it.

For instance, he seems to have at least some idea of what is to come in the game, but we have no idea of exactly how much he knows. Does he only know his own part in it and not the wider scope of the story?

Why does he never try to stop the Batter even when it does become clear what his intention are, or when he's started killing characters he seemingly cares about? Despite having all these seemingly tight knit relationships with people, he never actually makes a move to stop The Batter or even call him out on his actions (though he comes close a few times, particularly in their last encounter, but it's always tongue and cheek, or cryptic and more ominous than damning), despite systematically killing all of them, several times going right past him to do it. So do his motives a line with the Batters enough that he feels their lose is worth the price of the games conclusion? Is he more self serving than the other characters in the game believe he is? Or does he just know his place in the game and is resigned to it?

Canon Powers:

Scripted Teleportation - Not exactly a power, it's certainly not referred to as one, it's just a byproduct of the game's script (as the name implies). He will usually appear in an area before the player character, even if he logically shouldn't be able to without passing the Batter on his way. This is something he jokes about at one point in the game, challenging the Player/Batter to a race with the promise of giving them a free item if the Batter wins, even though (as he himself jokes about after the Batter inevitably loses) there was no chance of him winning (he still gives up a free item anyway for playing along at least). Whether he actually is teleporting at the convenience of the script or he just has shortcuts (as we do occasionally see him getting to places after the Batter has entered them, or walking around/taking trains, so he isn't just instantaneously appearing everywhere he needs to be, and he does guide you to 'easier' ways to get to places) is unknown.

Sitting on the 4th Wall - Zacharie is fully aware that he's a video game character and he comments or jokes about it pretty often, as well as addressing the Player directly in his dialogue. But it also seems like he may have some sense of what events are meant to take place throughout the game as well as as what files the game came with (at one point in the game, as compensation for fulfilling an optional request to gift him a music box the Batter is holding, he helps the Player with a puzzle by directing them to a Text File in the games Folder). Exactly how much he knows is up for debate, as he seems to occasionally get things wrong, or shows surprise, grief, or bitterness when certain events happen, or at times when the Player does something he didn't expect, or at least, hoped they wouldn't do. But how genuine those moments are is completely up to interpretation.

Freebie Powers:

Cosmetic Difference - Since Zacharie is never quite drawn the same way twice in any of his concept art, and the game's creator Mortis Ghost is in the habit of encouraging people to interpret the characters as they wish, I'm going to be basing how Zacharie looks off of how this artist depicts him.

Zacharie will have no control over any of these things or how people see him, and he'll be completely unaware most of it is happening unless someone reacts to the events or confronts him about it.

Power Selection: Magic - Adept

Game Powers:

Walking Luck Ticket - Can cure or heal the minor illnesses or wounds of others with little or no issue (can cure things like colds, and food poisoning, make scrapes and minor puncture wounds knit themselves closed or heal bumps and bruises). Attempting to heal anything beyond that may help some, but will not heal/cure it completely and may backlash on to him; causing him to take on a fraction of the wounds/poisoning/illness of the person he's trying to heal (equal to the amount he successfully managed to heal them).

Shielding Add-ons - A shielding spell that he can cast on himself, that takes the form of two flightless wings. On their own, each "wing" can take up to two lighter physical attacks (a punch or kick, or a strike from a smaller/lightweight weapon), or one harder physical attack each (from a war hammer or other heavy weapon). If used together they can completely or partially (if one or both have already taken a hit) block a single low level attack spell (like a fireball). One on its own can partially block a low-level spell but only about 10-45% (depending on how much damage it has already taken). They stand no chance against anything more powerful than a low-level spell, and they won't protect him in the slightest if he has something more powerful lobed at him.

The "wings" also do not block on automatic, he has to see the attack coming (or prepare for it) and consciously move them to successfully block or weaken an attack. So even with them up, someone who can catch him by surprise or who has good enough aim, can get past them. And as soon as one has taken too many hits it will disappear or fall apart.

Can only cast the shield at full effectiveness once a day. Any damage it takes will roll over in to the proceeding casts until a full twenty four hours has past since it was initially cast at full power.

Greetings Wretched Monarch - Can summon a sword whenever he's in need of it.

Non-Powered Abilities:

Multilingual - While he had originally only been made to speak French, Spanish, and a little bit of Latin, thanks to the dedication of those willing to program different translations in to the game, he can now also communicate in English, Portuguese and Polish.

Mercantile - He's a traveling vendor first and foremost, and so the majority of his skills are linked to that. Despite sometimes having an unsettling quality to him, he can be very good at drawing people in and seeming hospitable and amusing (though your mileage may vary), and he knows how to negotiate fair trades and deals. He's also used to carrying around quite a bit of weight for long distances due to traveling around with all his merchandise from Zone to Zone.

And while there were times he could be found sitting in an actual shop, more often then not he was appearing in less than hospitable areas (down in some haunted mines, on a building surrounded by menacing flying whales, outside of boss rooms, etc) so it can be assumed that either the spirits and other hostiles of the game weren't interested in him, he could avoid them very well, or he's capable of protecting himself to some extent.

Cool Headed and Conciliatory - While not necessarily diplomatic, Zach has a kind of disarming quality to him that goes beyond just convincing people to buy merchandise from him. He's highly regarded by quite a few characters in the game, with a wide verity of personalities between them, including at least one who's shown to be spontaneously volatile to most others. He's always calm and seemingly understanding, described by one character as being very sympathetic. Even near the end of the game when his dialog starts to take a more bitter tone, occasionally slipping in morbidly playful jabs about what the Player/Batter has been doing, he's never out right hostile or condemning.

Puzzle Solving - Living in a puzzle based game means having to be good at making your way through the various puzzles and mazes that litter your world. While we don't exactly see him go through any, he does help with them when he takes over as the Batters guide, created a few as attractions in his theme park, and certainly seems to be capable of getting past them easily enough.

Information Gathering - To be fair it's probably a lot easier to collect information from a world you were around to see the creation or rebirth of. Even more so when you have at least some scripted knowledge of the bones of that universe, but he supposedly does do some leg work in acquiring information on at least one Zone he was supposedly less familiar with, and he's happy enough to share what he knows, especially when it's for a price.

Setting/Suitability: How do you expect your character to respond to the setting? What do you hope to do with your character long-term? Does your character currently have skills that would allow them to adapt, survive, and do heroic things? If your character doesn't, do you think they'd have the capacity to learn? If they're not used to cooperating with others, what makes you think they'll be able to adapt to cooperating with the group?

SAMPLES

Prose Sample:

The people inhabiting this universe were all so fascinating. All so unique.

So unlike what the Elsen had become over the years, adopting a kind of flock mentality, either out of self-preservation, necessity or nervous habit. While there had been outliers (for better or worse) most of them had been nervous, overly cautious, unquestioningly stringent rule followers, who in many ways reflected the whims or wants of the rulers of their respective zones. They dressed the same, looked the same, spoke with the same general cadence, and polity or anxiously requested that others follow suit in order to fit into their established system.

While he held them no ill will for that, it was admittedly something of a breath of fresh air to see so many

Network Sample: 200 word minimum. You may use the following prompt, or make up your own. Links to RP samples at other games are not accepted, you must write up a new prompt, but you may use samples at other games to supplement your samples. Since the test drives rarely use network format, you cannot use a test drive thread for the network sample, only the prose sample.

Your character's inner child has been separated from your character into its own individual entity by a powerful spirit, and your character can speak to them through the game's magic mirror network. The child has been commanded to listen in silence, and in an ultimate test of self-awareness, your character has been told they must talk to them and pass them wisdom and emotional honesty they've gained through life experience. Every time you character lies or is otherwise insincere about something from their adult life, they get zapped with a painful magical shock from the spirit.

Additional info: Any additional info you think it's important to include. You can use this space to ask the mods if certain weapons, gear, belongings, or animal companions can be brought into the game with the character.

comments

But you can go the other way and opt into having your character see more creepy stuff happening to him that others might not see, or only occasionally seeing his face and other times seeing a black glitch behind his mask.

Opting In isn't really necessary, I'll assume anyone who hasn't Opted Out is okay with his normal amount of weirdness, but I do plan to keep it kind of mild unless someone has specifically stated they're okay with more creepy stuff.

Comments are not screened unless requested but IP tracking is turned off.

OPT OUT

<b>Opt Out</b>

<b>Player Name</b>:

<b>Character/s you would like to Opt Out</b>: (Please list their journal along with their name.)

<b>What are they Opting out of?</b>: (Is it everything?
